Cardinia Mobile Library will be off road from Monday 15th February

The Mobile Library will be off road for refurbishment from Monday 15th February for approximately 4 weeks.

A Replacement Service will accept returns and reserved items or holds will be available for collection at sites.

Items can be borrowed at or returned to any Casey-Cardinia Library.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but the result will be worth waiting for!

Narre Warren and Fountain Gate Estate

In the last post we looked at some of the early housing sub-divisions in Narre Warren, and in the aerial photographs we saw Brechin, which was located on the site of the current Fountain Gate Shopping Centre . Brechin was built in 1937 for John Lloyd (1906-1984).

Narre Warren - the growth of a suburb

Narre Warren's origins as a country town have now been largely obscured by housing developments and suburbanisation, so I was interested to come across these land sale advertisements in the Pakenham Gazette. They are from 1959. We have the Pakenham Gazette and it's predecessor, the Berwick Shire News, from 1909 to 1965 on DVD at Cranbourne, Emerald, Narre Warren and Pakenham Libraries.

The survey to find the favourite Australian Fiction Novel (any era, any genre) run by Australian Book Review (ABR) has finally closed, and the thousands who voted surprised ABR with a few golden oldies making it into the top 10.

Power Outage at Cranbourne Library

Cranbourne Library was closed Monday afternoon on February Ist 2010, due to vandalism to power cables connected to the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex. The Cranbourne Library re-opened today, Tuesday, February 2nd. We apologise for any inconvenience.
