Thank You Casey Cardinia Community!

January 9th, 2020

We received donations of gifts and non-perishable food items valued at more than $10,000, as well as $2,000 in cash, from the Casey Cardinia community during our annual Christmas Charity Appeal. The gifts and donations, which were collected on behalf of eight local community charity partners, were distributed to help brighten up the festive period for those in need throughout the region.

The value of the contributions to this year’s appeal has exceeded that of previous years by several thousand dollars! Go team!

Our CEO Chris Buckingham said that the generosity of library members was inspiring, especially given that the waiving of overdue fines was no longer an incentive (we removed fines for overdue items permanently over 12 months ago. Yay!)

Chris said, “Our members have once again shown kindness and empathy at a time that can be difficult for many others in our community. It’s great that our libraries can facilitate their generosity via this annual appeal.”

We partnered with eight local charities during the six-week campaign, including WAYSS, Cranbourne and Casey North CISS, Transit Outreach Service, Hampton Park Community House, Barry Plant Emerald Charity Drive and the Salvation Army Open Doors Program in Pakenham, to ensure the donations were distributed to those who needed them most.

Continuing the spirit of giving, we have commenced fundraising for the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund as a response to the current bushfire crisis. All donations received through library donation tap points and via library branches from now until the end of February will go directly to the Gippsland communities impacted by the bushfires. “Public libraries do so much more than providing information and resources. Each day libraries can be seen building stronger and more connected communitiesThrough public campaigns such as our Christmas Charity Appeal and now our bushfire relief fundraising, libraries change lives in so many ways”, Chris said.

Thank you once again everyone, you really are making a difference.
