Freedom of Information

Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, members of the public have the right to request information and access documents about their personal affairs and the activities of Connected Libraries.

Connected Libraries is a public library service formed under Section 196 of the Local Government Act 1989. Connected Libraries is formed by the signing and gazetting of a Regional Library Agreement by the City of Casey Council.

The Agreement formally creates the Connected Libraries, which then exists as a Corporation under the Local Government Act 1989, subject to the requirements of that Act and existing as a separate legal entity, able to sue and be sued.

The primary function of Connected Libraries is to operate, manage and administer public library services to the approximately 340,000 residents and ratepayers of the City of Casey Council. These library services include the management of library buildings and resources; provision of a lending collection of library materials; information services and support (including internet and electronic resources); public programs and activities for adults and children; local history and cultural information and resources.
