Statement 1:

Organisation and Function

Casey Cardinia Libraries is a public library service formed under Section 196 of the Local Government Act 1989. Casey Cardinia Libraries is formed by the signing and gazetting of a Regional Library Agreement by the two participating member Councils: the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council.

The Agreement formally creates the Casey Cardinia Libraries, which then exists as a Corporation under the Local Government Act 1989, subject to the requirements of that Act and existing as a separate legal entity, able to sue and be sued.

The primary function of Casey Cardinia Libraries is to operate, manage and administer public library services to the approximately 340,000 residents and ratepayers of the City of Casey and the Cardinia Shire Council. These library services include the management of library buildings and resources; provision of a lending collection of library materials; information services and support (including internet and electronic resources); public programs and activities for adults and children; local history and cultural information and resources.
