Booktitle: Lester and Clyde

Author: James H. Reece

Type of story: other

How good was it: OK

What happens: Lester and Clyde seems to be a book about frogs but it has human related issues.   Lester is the eldest brother who is resposible and Clyde is a big trickster. One day Clyde decides to have some fun. What will happen when Clyde is evicted from his home? And what will happen when he can't find a new home due to human polution?

I like this book because it has human related issues and says how much we as humans, are destroying nature. I recommend this book for children aged between 8 and 13 because older readers would pick up the important issues and messages more than younger children.

Specky MageeBook title: Specky Magee

Author:
Felice Arena and Gary Lyon

Type of story:
Adventure

How good was it: Ripper

What happens: Simon (Specky) Magee is a teenage boy who loves Aussie Rules. Specky barracks  for 5 teams and is more a fan of the game than any particular team. But then one day Specky found a photo that could change his life forever. Was he adopted? Could his real Dad be a footy legend? Specky was determined to find out the truth.

I feel that this is a fantastic book because of all Speckys different heart wrenching experiences.  I recommend this for children over 10. Some of the themes are not suitable for young children.

How good was it: Ripper

What happens: Specky finds out that he is adopted. He goes to the grand final with Chris Kicks. He was determined to find his real parents and he tries to find out why his parents dressed him in Geelong gear when he was a baby.

My favourite part was when he found out his dad went for Geelong.

How good was it: Ripper

What happens: Specky had a dad who hated football and Specky loved football.  One day in Specky's grand final, the siren went and Specky marked the ball on the siren. The score was 50 to 47, if Specky got the goal they would win. If Specky missed they would lose. Specky's day wasn't there and it is what made him miss so they lost.
