Your Online Library tips

Want to make the best use of your library online? Here are some quick and easy tips to help make using your library online both quick and easy.

Sign up for courtesy reminders

Keen to avoid overdue charges? We can send you a courtesy reminder message 3 days before your items are due back. This service is available by SMS or email at your request, providing we have your current contact details.

To subscribe to these reminders, contact library staff, or use our Feedback form.

If you’ve already subscribed and are not receiving our reminder emails please check your spam folder. Otherwise contact library staff.

Access more library collections

Casey Cardinia Library Corporation is a member of the SWIFT Library Consortium which includes 19 Victorian public library services. Titles from these libraries are available for hold by selecting ALL Libraries in the search drop down menu. This is handy if we don’t hold a copy of the item you’re after in our collections.

Placing multiple holds simultaneously

Did you know you can place multiple holds on our new catalogue?  For example if you're looking for several titles by the same author. Just tick the box next to the titles you are looking for and select “place hold” from the drop down menu under “select an action”.  Note: make sure you do this on each page of search results.

Change your preferences

When you login, under My Account you can specify preferences, so in future it is all set as you prefer. This includes:

  •  Opening page on My Account
  •  Hold pick-up location
  • Lists

You can also change your PIN under this tab, to ensure you are using one that is both safe and memorable.

Check our digital collections for in-demand titles

If there is a long waiting list for that latest novel or audiobook, check our e-book and e-audiobook collections for a virtual copy. On the library website, mouse over 'Online Resources' and then 'e-books and e-audiobooks' to start your search.

Get the App

Apps can make the experience of using a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet easier by optimising sites or services for your device.  Library apps are available for a range of services, including:

·         Renew items and place holds on your smartphone with the library app Bookmyne.

·         Download e-books and e-audiobooks directly on your mobile device with the Borrowbox or Axis 360 apps.

·         Learn a new language with the Transparent Language Learning app.

·         Download free music with the Freegal app.

Ask us via the web

Whether you’re troubleshooting e-books, having difficulty logging into your account to renew your items, or just have a tricky information request, don’t forget you can contact us via Facebook (Casey-Cardinia-Library-Corporation), Twitter (@CCLCLibs) or on our website feedback/ask a question form  http://www.cclc.vic.gov.au/feedback.  Handy if you’re not planning a trip to one of our branches.

Reset your PIN

Keep forgetting your PIN? The good news is you can now reset your library card PIN yourself, via the catalogue. Click "Reset my PIN" under Help at left and enter your library card number (with the A in front). An email will be sent to the email address on your library card.  Follow the instructions in the email and you will have your new password in short order.

Suspending holds while on holiday

If you’re going on holiday you can suspend your holds on our catalogue so you don't miss out while you're away.

Login to My Account, select the relevant holds and click Suspend Holds, select your dates and click Suspend. Your hold will not be filled until after the end date you have set.

Note: you will not lose your place in the holds queue

24/7 access to eresources

With your library card you can access a wide range of online resources from home, anytime you need them. Download that new single on Freegal Music or browse today's newspaper on Press Display. There’s also great homework help with resources for students. On the library website, go to Online Resources.

RSS feeds

Stay up to date with new titles being added to the collection or what's on in your library by subscribing to RSS feeds. This way the information comes to you in one place rather than you having to search for it on multiple pages. You can get RSS feeds from the catalogue, from our website and from our events bookings.

From the catalogue: Create a search e.g. for new titles on a given subject or by a specific author and then click on the orange RSS button:

For library events: Go to CCLC Events or CCLC Hols (for school holiday events only)  and click on the RSS button at the top of the screen:

RSS events

For the library website: click on the RSS button at the bottom of the page.

The feed created can then be added to your preferred feed reader e.g. Firefox Live Bookmarks, Feedly etc.

Request for purchase

If you’ve searched our catalogue (including searching “ALL LIBRARIES”) and you’re still not finding what you’re after, there is another option; you can place a request for interlibrary loan or purchase.  Log into Library Link Victoria (LLV) with your library card number and pin and begin searching.  Make sure you go into the details of the record to make sure it is what you really want (e.g. an audiobook not a book), and remember LLV records are sometimes outdated and so items may be unavailable.

Please see our website for more information (including a quick checklist that will help you with your interlibrary loan/purchase requests).

Tip: It’s always good practice to double check the details of your search on the internet first to verify spelling, also to find other identifying information, e.g. specifying which version of a film adaptation you are looking for.
