The City of Casey has announced a huge new project at Narre Warren that will involve the Library Corporation.
Casey is planning a Casey Cultural and Civic Precinct that will include a new library branch to replace the existing Narre Warren Library. The new precinct will include a regional theatre (at least 800 seats); multi-purpose exhibition space; regional art gallery; new library; community meeting rooms; Civic centre and community plaza. The project is expected to cost about $125 million and construction is planned for 2015.
Media releases have already been published in local newspapers regarding the project.
The Library Corporation has been involved in the initial concept planning and will continue to be involved in the design and planning process. The new library is expected to be 2,000sqm (the new Pakenham library is 1,200sqm as a comparison) and will be fully integrated into the community spaces. A report will be provided to the Board at the next meeting in June and I expect that the project will gain significant momentum over the next few months. Operations at the existing branch should continue as normal during planning and construction.
