No, it's not the name of a new children's book. There actually is an elephant out the front of Emerald Library!
He came wrapped shiny and golden, to rest in the forecourt outside Emerald Library.
"The sculpture is a replica of Zoos Victoria's baby elephant, Mali, and was hand painted by a local Melbourne artist. The sculpture was auctioned last year, along with 48 others, after being exhibited throughout Melbourne to celebrate Melbourne Zoo's 150th birthday. With the help of local residents, businesses, community organisations and Cardinia council ward funds, Emerald for Sustainability was able to secure the sculpture and contribute to the money that was raised through the auction to help fund the zoo's animal conservation program."
The baby elephant was revealed with a flourish as part of the PAVE festival in Emerald last Saturday. His time at the library will be short at this stage, but we hope that he will be able to come back and stay a little longer at another time.
