These days all our photographs and many other memories are digital. Unless you print them all out and keep them elsewhere, are they truly safe?
The Queensland State Library has created a resource for anyone interesting in preserving their digital treasures.
The Personal digital archive toolkit comprises a short overview video of steps you can take to preserve your digital photographs, emails, recordings and documents. It also links to other relevant resources from the Library of Congress in the US that provide information on preserving:
- digital photographs
- digital audio
- digital video
- electronic mail
- personal digital records
Our computers are great but they are not perfect. It is well worth taking the time to discover how you can ensure that your digital treasures will be available, irregardless of what happens to the original.
