Victoria’s newest public library was today officially opened by the Hon.Judith Graley, MP Member for Narre Warren South and Cr. Wayne Smith, Deputy Mayor - City of Casey.
Bunjil Place Library is the new home of the Casey Cardinia Libraries Narre Warren branch and offers an amazing visitor experience that supports creativity, discovery and lifelong learning.
The three level Library is located at Bunjil Place, the new arts and entertainment hub in Melbourne’s south east, and has been designed to deliver a first-class library experience that is interactive and accessible.
Features of the Library include:
- An engaging, vibrant and playful children’s zone,
- A living-room styled youth area with audio visual and gaming capability,
- Outdoor reading garden,
- Six fully accessible community meeting rooms,
- A six-metre-wide art display wall with feature lighting and audio-visual technology to showcase a variety of community artworks,
- Capacity for a library collection of approximately 50,000 pieces, and
- Free public wi-fi.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said, “The traditional style, use and design of libraries has evolved to an interactive and social space where people are encouraged to meet, chat, learn and be inspired.
“Council couldn’t be prouder of this incredible space for our community and it’s wonderful to finally see our vision for a contemporary and modern library realised.
“Bunjil Place is the cultural heart of Melbourne’s south east and delivers an experience like no other in the region. I encourage everyone to come and visit the precinct, including the Library, and enjoy what it has to offer,” added Cr Aziz.
Casey-Cardinia Libraries CEO Mr Chris Buckingham wants the local community to visit Bunjil Place Library and make it their own.
“Bunjil Place Library represents a new benchmark in public library design. The team at Casey-Cardinia Libraries are delighted to be bringing this beautiful space to life and creating visitor experiences that will engage and inspire our community,” said Mr Buckingham.
