Casey Cardinia Libraries (CCL) are expanding Cardinia Mobile Library Service by establishing a new weekly service at Nar Nar Goon from March 23rd.
The mobile service is already the busiest in Victoria receiving nearly 55,000 visits a year. CCL have identified enough time in the mobile library’s busy timetable for a stop at the Nar Nar Goon Primary School on Thursdays at midday.
Chris Buckingham CEO, Casey Cardinia Libraries said: ‘We know how important this service is to rural communities in the region. We had a good hard look at our weekly timetable for ways that we could deliver a much needed service to the whole Nar Nar Goon community.’
Traditionally the mobile library service has visited Maryknoll from 9:30am – 11:30am in the morning and Cockatoo from 1:30pm -7:30pm in the afternoon. By adjusting visiting times at Maryknoll and Cockatoo a new service for Nar Nar Goon is feasible.
The new timetable will be as follows:
- 11:30am – 12:30pm Nar Nar Goon
- 1.00pm – 2.00pm Maryknoll
- 2:45pm – 6:30pm Cockatoo
The new timetable will be trialled for 6 months to make sure that it works well for people in Maryknoll, Nar Nar Goon and Cockatoo.
‘We appreciate that the Maryknoll and Cockatoo communities will need to make an adjustment to help us provide the new service at Nar Nar Goon.’ Said Mr Buckingham.
‘Our conversations with local library users indicate that people will support the trial, because they recognise how another rural community like their own will benefit. Added Mr Buckingham’
‘Libraries are built on the principle of sharing and in this instance, if everyone gives a bit, hundreds of people will benefit.’ Concluded Mr Buckingham
Feedback on the trial can be given to CCL directly via our feedback form, by calling 59900100 or visiting the mobile library when it is in town.
