New Cultural Precinct Design announced

Casey Cultural Precinct DesignAt a special ceremony this afternoon at Fountain Gate, Precinct Ambassador Guy Sebastian announced the winning design for the Casey Cultural Precinct.

"Council is pleased to announce that the winning architectural firm is the current winner of the 2013 World Architecture World Building of Year Award, Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp with a truly beautiful and iconic design!"

The Casey Cultural Precinct will be located on the site bounded by Princes Highway, Magid Drive and Patrick Northeast Drive, Narre Warren, adjacent to the Casey ARC. It will feature:

  • New, larger Narre Warren Library
  • An 800 seat Regional Theatre
  • New Civic Centre (Council offices)
  • Multi-purpose exhibition space
  • A Regional Art Gallery
  • A community plaza
  • Regional Schools Centre for the Arts

Construction will begin in the next year, for a mid 2017 opening.

A competition to name the facility has opened today as well and will run until 14 March 2014.
