Alexander Henderson Award
An award for the best published Family History in Australia. The
competition closes on 30th November each year with details available at

Cancer Council of Victoria Arts Awards
Open to all people who have been touched by the experience of
cancer. Entrants must reflect the theme in their entries, which changes
every year. Categories include poetry, short story and childrens

City of Casey - Fresh Words
A FREE
competition for young writers who live, work or study in the City of

Department of Veteran Affairs' Story Writing & Art Competition
Open for members of Victoria's ex-service community, this annual
competition attracts hundreds of entries each year in the categories of
painting, craft, photography, story writing and poetry. The Competition
also provides entrants with an opportunity to have
their works publicly acknowledged and where appropriate, recorded for
posterity. Stories submitted under the “True War Story” category are
retained in the private records collection of the Australian War
Memorial.

Eastern Regional Libraries Storywriting Competition
Each year, Eastern Regional Libraries conducts a national
storywriting competition. The competition is open to all Australian
residents. Entries must be previously unpublished and not exceed 3,000

Elyne Mitchell Rural Women's Writing Award
The Elyne Mitchell Rural Women's Writing Award not only commemorates
Elyne's
life and work, but it has also been established to encourage rural

Fellowship of Australian Writers Competitions
From September to November each year the Fellowship of Australian
Writers provides the National FAW Literary Awards which have multiple

Greater Dandenong - Annual Greater Dandenong Writing Awards
Run annually, this award celebrates the written word between March
and June and runs in cooperation with the WordsFest program. More

Human Writes
This competition is for a personal essay on the topic of Human

The annual Melbourne Poets Union competition is for an unpublished
poem on any theme with a maximum of 50 lines. First prize is $1000,

Taronga Foundation Poetry Prize
The Taronga Foundation Poetry Prize offers Australia’s youth the
opportunity to share in over $31,000 in prizes and get their poetry

Valerie Parv
An award for romance writing. Entries must consist of the first 3
chapters of a romance novel and a synopsis of the entire work. Entry

The Australian Society of Authors is the professional association
for Australia's literary creators. The ASA sets minimum rates for pay
and conditions for authors and illustrators, and publishes books,
papers and lists for emerging and established writers.
The Australian Writer’s Marketplace is Australia and New Zealand’s
only guide to the writing industry. While providing submission and
contact details for the print media and publishing industry, it also
includes:
- support organisations and information services
- a range of writing courses and workshops
- literary events and competitions; and
- services for each stage of the writing, editing and publication
process.
The Fellowship of Australian Writers (Vic) Inc is a non-profit
making voluntary organisation which aims to bring together all those
interested in writing for their mutual professional, cultural and
social benefit, and to provide information and advice to them. The
membership includes writers working in diverse fields. Current
membership throughout Victoria is over 2000, with an increasing number
of members hailing from states right across Australia. While FAW (Vic)
Inc. is based in Victoria, the competitions and publishing
opportunities advertised in its regular magazine The Australian
Writer are open to all Australian writers.
A not for profit organization for poets staffed by a volunteer
committee. Our
membership is 220, most based in and around Melbourne but we have a
number of members in regional Victoria, and others scattered throughout
all states and territories

through the various stages of their development.
