Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation (CCLC) provides collections to meet the library needs of an increasingly diverse community. Statewide standards and criteria have been established to determine how collections of Languages other than English (LOTE) resources are created and maintained, depending on both population levels and collection usage.

These criteria have been used to establish LOTE collections in Chinese and Italian at CCLC. The Chinese Collection is housed at Endeavour Hills Library and includes books, magazines, DVDs and CDs. The Italian collection is available at Narre Warren, Endeavour Hills and Cranbourne Libraries and includes, book, magazines, DVDs, videos and CDs.

Where smaller populations apply, CCLC provides newspaper and magazines titles for selected languages as listed below. A Basic English collection is also available.

These collections are regularly monitored for use and relevance to the community, through the review of Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data.

Library users seeking titles in other languages may be able to do so through a search of the library catalogue, as other library services hold titles in other languages.

Newspapers and the current issues of magazine titles can only be read at the owning library.  All other issues can be put on hold, to be collected at any of CCLC's libraries.
