Cardinia Shire Council, assisted by the Library Corporation, has been successful in obtaining a ‘Living Libraries grant to assist in the refurbishment of the Cardinia Mobile Library. The grant, to the value of $49,000, will be matched by Cardinia Shire to give a total of $98,000 for the refurbishment of the mobile library trailer. Proposed works include a complete overhaul of the hydraulics units and improvements to the steps and entry; electrical works; replacement of exterior panels and support structure; repainting; refurbishment of the shelving; re-carpeting; improvements to the desk/public internet area; general detail improvements to the interior.

Planning for the work will commence shortly and more details on the timing of the refurbishment will be provided shortly. Alternative service arrangements will be provided during the absence of the vehicle for the refurbishment.

The refurbishment will completely renovate the trailer (now 11 years old and the busiest Mobile Library in the state) and improve the quality of library service provided to the community. It will also extend the life of the current trailer by a significant period.

Congratulations to Cardinia Shire for obtaining this grant.
